Urban Research Group: Global Urban Youth / Youth in the City

The research group „Global Urban Youth“ is an initiative proposed by PhD students from
Georg Simmel Center for Metropolitan Studies, the Department for Urban and Regional
Sociology from Humboldt-University of Berlin and the Center for Metropolitan Studies from the Technical University of Berlin.

 

Research topics:

 

  • urban youth and its relationship to social and spatial mobility
  • urban youth and the global transformations of work and social security
  • urban youth and the economic crisis (especially in Southern Europe)

 

Current projects:

  • Seminar „Forever Young? Precarity and Youth in Berlin“, summer term 2017 in the context of the Q-Programms for research-based learning by bologna.lab, Humboldt University of Berlin
  • RC21 International Conference 2017, Leeds, UK panel organisation “Global Urban Youth in the Midst of Precarization of Life: Towards the Formulation of New Claims For Social Justice
