Univ.-Prof. Dr. Almut-Barbara Renger

Almut-Barbara Renger is Professor of Ancient Religion, Culture and their Reception History at the Institute of Religious Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. Her research concentrates on the continuing effects of ancient Mediterranean religion and mythology throughout history up to the present day; key terms and concepts central to the study of religion; dynamics in the history of religions between Asia, Europe and America; and Modern Buddhism. Recent book publications include Erleuchtung. Kultur- und Religionsgeschichte eines Begriffs (Herder, 2016); Sukzession in Religionen: Autorisierung – Legitimierung – Wissenstransfer (De Gruyter, 2017); Receptions of Greek and Roman Antiquity in East Asia (Brill, 2018); New Antiquities: Transformations of Ancient Religion in the New Age and Beyond (Equinox, 2019); and Buddhismus. 100 Seiten (Reclam, 2020). She is currently writing a book on Buddhism in Berlin.
